Millionaires pull away from Wildcats, 47-13

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – For a fleeting moment Friday night, it looked like the Central Mountain football team might be ready to break its recent 2-game skid. Senior standout Connor Foltz electrified the visiting Wildcat cheering section with an eye-opening, game-starting 92-yard kickoff return for a score. Teammate Kevin Grenninger’s extra point gave the Wildcats a 7-0 lead before there was a play run from scrimmage.

As it turned out, highlights were few for the Wildcats in the game’s final 47 minutes or so, Williamsport taking the lead a short time later and rolling to a 47-13, leaving both teams with 2-4 marks as the season’s second half got underway.

Field position was the major factor in the game. The host Millionaires had it all night, starting virtually every drive from inside Wildcat territory. Their scoring drives covered 35, 23, 34, 50, 26, 49 and 24 yards. Williamsport was helped considerably by their Division I kicking prospect Connor Poole. His kick-offs after each Millionaire score carried into or beyond the end zone, forcing CM to start most all their drives at their own 20-yard line (other than Foltz’s game-starting 92-yard TD run, Poole in a futile pursuit up the far sideline).

The Wildcats ran no plays in Williamsport territory in the first half, punting five times and giving up a safety on a high snap on a punt attempt. The third quarter was even worse, the Millionaire offense unstoppable, scoring on all four possessions.

Central Mountain did get a third quarter touchdown, set up on a 70-yard Thomas Sprague to Xavier Persun 70-yard pass, followed by a 7-yard Rocco Serafini run. By then the Millionaires had the game well in hand.

Bill-town’s senior quarterback Caleb Williamson finished 11-for-26 passing, good for 160 yards and three touchdowns. Sprague finished the night 6-for-18 for 73 yards. Serafini led the Wildcat runners with 64 yards on 19 carries. Devon Harris paced Williamsport with 53 yards on nine rushes.

Central Mountain returns home next Friday for the start of a 3-game homestand. First in will be 5-0-1 Selinsgrove. The Seals downed Mifflinburg Friday night by a 63-7 score.
