CM’s Grieco scores two in boys’ soccer win at Danville
DANVILLE, PA – Central Mountain traveled to Danville Thursday night for a tough PHAC contest and came home with a nice 2-1 win.
Danville struck first just 3 minutes in – a nice goal developed by the Ironmen that the Wildcats wish they would have defended better.
The Wildcats had a fantastic response though, as just two minutes later, Lincoln Breon whipped a ball into the box, and as it bounced around, Jack Grieco found a way to push it into the back of the net to tie it up.
Both teams had attacks to goal throughout the rest of the first half, but the keepers and back lines would keep it level at 1.
Following the halftime break, Grieco decided to take it into his own hands. A quick combination with Pierce Long found Grieco with an inch of space, and from 25 yards out drilled the far corner to make it 2-1. One of the better celebrations seen in recent memory followed. The goal was Grieco’s third of the year.
Luke Simcox and his backline mates held the Ironmen in check for the rest of the second half to pull out the win. Simcox ended the game with 10 saves. Coach Billy Hook said, “The defense was strong all night, staying organized and communicating well.”
The win puts the Wildcats at 4-5 on the season. They are back on the road for another tough contest Saturday at Midd-West. JV 5:30, Varsity at 7 p.m.
