CM runners earn sweep at West Branch

ALLPORT, PA – The Central Mountain girls’ cross-country team added another victory Tuesday evening, defeating West Branch on the road by a 15-50 final. The girls looked strong from the sound of the gun. Grace Keohane led the pack the entire race as she crossed the finish line first.

“These girls brought it tonight. I am beyond happy with all of their performances today,” said Coach Scott Bair. On top of the win, eight girls recorded new PR’s for the season. They were Grace Keohane, Gabriella Hosley, Calienna Cardinal, Aubrey Eiler, Abrianna Hosley, Adrian Samaniego, Sage Rippey, and Kennedy Metzger.

The Central Mountain boys’ cross-country team looked impressive also, defeating West Branch on the road 27-32. The boys knew going in that it was going to be a close team race. Sophomore Damien Winner had an unbelievable night. Damien took the lead in the first 100 meters of the race and held it the entire race, winning by 7 seconds. West Branch took the next 3 spots, but then it was all Central Mountain.

Coach Bair said, “The boys knew they were going to have to be almost perfect tonight to get this win. They all stepped up for one another and got the job done. I am very proud of their efforts tonight.”

The boys recorded 5 PR’s. They were Damien Winner, Riley Gonzales, Shayden Hill, Jaxon Hardy, and Cory Matejovich.

Both the Wildcats boys and girls head to Bloomsburg University on Saturday to take part in the NEPA Invitational.
