Lewisburg downs Lady Wildcat soccer
LEWISBURG, PA – The Central Mountain Lady Wildcats visited the Green Dragons of Lewisburg on Monday and sustained an 8-1 loss after a competitive first half.
In the opening minutes, the blue and white moved the ball well and completed passes that allowed players to get into dangerous positions. One of them landed on the foot of Lily Hendricks as Halle Lodek played a great combination with Jaz Anderson. Lily found herself driving to the net and beating her defender and the goalkeeper to put the first goal on the board. The blue and white traded possessions with the home side and found themselves in some attacking areas. With about sixteen minutes left in the first half, things changed and the Green Dragons found themselves in a fortunate situation. Coach Ryan Veltri said a questionable handball resulted in a major shift in the game that found the Lady Wildcats down three to one going into the half.
The second half once again seemed to be the visiting team’s downfall, with no cause of their play, the Lady Cats found themselves down seven goals and chasing the game. The scoreline does not reflect the type of game that was played but unfortunately, the game isn’t played on paper. Strong defensive organization by Julia Smith and Cayman Hill, the Lady Wildcats did all they could but were unlucky in their defensive third. There were some bright spots moving forward, Lily Hendricks, Jaz Anderson, Halle Lodek and Taylor Campbell moved the ball and connected passes but couldn’t break down the strong defending of the Green Dragons. The Lady Cats left the game questioning “what if?”
The JV battled yet for another game. Unfortunately, giving up two goals, one in each half and they were not able to put any real pressure on the Green Dragons back line. The game ended as the sun set and the Lady Wildcats made another long trip home.
Next up, Central Mountain Lady Wildcats’ first home game of the season, Wednesday against Jersey Shore, will be streamed on therecord-online..
