Evey named KCSD interim assistant superintendent
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – Justin Evey was named Thursday night to serve as the interim assistant superintendent for the Keystone Central School District; approval came Thursday night as the school board’s September voting meeting.
Evey most recently has served the district as its Virtual Academy Principal. His transfer will be effective as of this Friday. He also was named the district’s School Safety and Security Coordinator; his pay in the interim position will be $500 per day, the district’s contract rate. He replaces Mark Condo who was removed from that post several weeks ago.
District Superintendent Jacquelyn Martin said there has been a “full slate” of applicants for the assistant’s position and first round interviews will soon be held, with a likely hire put before the board in October.
The superintendent noted a required public hearing for the new Liberty-Curtin Elementary School in Blanchard will be held on Oct. 5. She talked of the positive community response at a similar meeting at the present school earlier this week.
One item related to the new school planning process drew some consternation from two board members. The topic was a state-required booklet containing particulars on the new Liberty-Curtin school. The booklet was not available until September 11, per information Thursday, and board member Elisabeth Lynch said she had not received a copy until later and did not have sufficient time to review the 29-page document before voting for its approval.
Other board members told Lynch the booklet was nothing more than a compilation of information about the school project which had been shared to the board and the public previously. Board President David Dietrich claimed there was information relative to options for the school missing from the booklet, asking about any discussions relative to a possible change in the municipalities part of the district. Superintendent Martin said there at one time had been informal discussions with neighboring Bald Eagle Area School District, but nothing had come of those talks as both parties were not supportive of any effort to move Liberty and Curtin Townships (which are in Centre County) into the BEA district.
The board approved the booklet on a 5-2 vote, Lynch and Dietrich voting no. Board members Wayne Koch and Polly Donahay were not present
