But wait, there’s more: Lock Haven considers another site for police headquarters
LOCK HAVEN, PA – City council in July approved hiring Buchart-Horn Architects to develop bid documents for constructing a new police headquarters on a portion of the upper E. Church Street municipal parking lot. The vote at the time to proceed was 6-1; the new location would be the fourth considered by council in the last couple years.
But now there is a fifth option up for review: According to the advance agenda for the Monday, Aug. 21 meeting, council will consider an agreement with Buchart-Horn “to perform a feasibility study for 509 E. Main Street for police and administrative services.” Cost of the work, if approved, would be $6,600.
The E. Main Street address is the location of the former E. Main Street United Methodist Church. Now in private ownership, it has most recently been the site of occasional public and private events and carries a for sale sign out front.
Previously council had looked at multiple possibilities for housing the police department, for decades in the rear portion of City Hall. They included the vacant Heilig-Meyers/Town Tavern site on Bellefonte Avenue, renovating City Hall, and a possible addition onto the Hope-Hose Fire Company on E. Church Street.
There has been virtually no public discussion of the E. Main Street location to this point and a city source told The Record he is not aware of a majority of council members willing to deviate from the July choice to build new police headquarters on the Church Street parking lot.
The public can look for some update at Monday’s council meeting which will be held in the city’s Public Works Garage on Second Avenue at 7 p.m.
