Flemington Bridge remains a work in progress
FLEMINGTON, PA – No word yet on whether repairs on the Flemington Bridge will be open to allow one-lane traffic once school starts later this month. Those involved in painting and repairing the bridge on Route 150 several weeks ago told The Record they hoped to have the heavily used span reopened to one-lane traffic by mid to late August, before classes begin in the Keystone Central School District on Aug. 30.
Originally PennDOT had announced the bridge, already limited to traffic light-controlled one-lane traffic, would be shut down for the month of June but it was determined that additional work would be needed, thus the extended shutdown; the shutdown now at the two-and-a-half month mark.
The Record this week reached out to PennDOT in Clearfield for an update but has received no word back to this point.
As PennDOT had announced earlier, once the bridge is re-opened, temporary traffic signals will again be used to enforce an alternating traffic pattern across the structure. This restriction is necessary for deck repairs and sidewalk replacement.
The state highway agency had announced the closure in May, to be in place throughout June, necessary in order to tarp the bridge and perform painting and structural steel repairs. PennDOT says the painting and repairs will improve the condition of the bridge from fair to good and keep it in useful service for years to come. The Flemington structure dates from 1933 and is 250 feet long. It carries an average of more than 13,400 vehicles each day.
