Somber opening for CPAA Antique and Classic Auto Auction

Doug Miller, right, opened the CPAA classic auction Friday. To his right Jeanne Miller, widow of the late Grant Miller and Shanan Renninger Miller, Doug’s wife.

MACKEYVILLE, PA – The 22nd annual Central Pennsylvania Auto Auction Antique and Classic Auto Auction had a somber opening Friday morning, the first in its history not under the direction of CPAA founder Grant Miller.

Grant Miller passed away in June at the age of 89 but as his son Doug Miller noted in opening remarks, his father would want the annual event to continue on as before. The younger Miller took several minutes to thank those in attendance and community members for their outpouring of support for the Miller family, terming the response “absolutely overwhelming.”

Doug Miller said his father “would do anything in the world for you….and didn’t like to take credit.” He said his father’s legacy would continue and said, “Rest easy, Dad, God Bless; we got this…that’s what he would want.”

The sale itself will continue through 6 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. 240 vehicles were to be auctioned on Friday and another 175 on Saturday. The auction is being streamed live on therecord-online.
