New principal on deck for Central Mountain Middle School
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – A Penns Valley school district administrator is the likely next principal at the Central Mountain Middle School. Keystone Central School District Superintendent Jacquelyn Martin announced at the school board’s work session Thursday night that after the interview process David Romanyshyn has been recommended to the school board for its approval at next week’s board voting session.
Pending board approval, the superintendent said, “Mr. Romanyshyn will be a welcome addition to our team as he has a wealth of experience teaching middle school mathematics in the Milton Area School District and 7-12 experience as an assistant principal and K-4 experience as the principal of Centre Hall and Miles Township Elementary Schools in the Penns Valley Area School District.”
Romanyshyn will succeed Dave Peters who has transferred to the role of Central Mountain High School Athletic Director and Assistant Principal.
The superintendent said the district was not selected as a recipient in the first round of the Renew America Schools Grant funded by the US Department of Energy. The district had been hoping to receive some $15 million. She reported that only one school in the state was selected to receive funding in the first round. Superintendent Martin said she will be working with the board’s facility and finance committees to determine how to proceed.
Only three board members were present for the work session, Tracy Smith, Jeff Johnston and Butch Knauff; members Polly Donahay and Wayne Koch participated online. Knauff expressed his displeasure with a City of Lock Haven requirement for storm drains and shrubbery as a part of an expanded parking lot project at Robb Elementary School. The requirement will boost the cost of the work an unbudgeted $70,000. Assistant Superintendent Mark Condo said he would talk to city officials about the matter.
Dr. Martin also reported the Learning 2025 Network has identified Keystone Central as a “System to Watch” by the American Association of School Administrators. The district received the award last week in Washington DC. We have been recognized for our Future-Ready focus on College and Career Readiness along with our Profile of a Learner and the work we are doing K-12 to promote student success. Our team was among several districts across the nation presenting at this conference on our Collective Leader Efficacy and our Team of Teams approach to our critical work in education.
The superintendent thanked board members Elisabeth Lynch and Rich Schulze for also attending the conference and “providing much support and encouragement.”
