Keystone Superintendent Martin shares word of January 2024 retirement

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – Keystone Central School District Superintendent Jacquelyn Martin Saturday night messaged school district staff that she will be retiring at the end of her contract, the date Jan. 31, 2024.

In her emailed message she said, “Together, we have achieved so many things over the past several years.” She wrote that the district is strong financially, that instructional improvement initiative and programs “are solidly articulated” and notes completed capital projects and those planned for the future “reflect the importance of our commitment to the best education experiences for our students.”

As to the future, Dr. Martin wrote, “I am ready to take on the challenges and opportunities in my future, and I plan to spend more time with my family, traveling and improving my golf game (which needs a lot of work).”

She assumed her Keystone Central position on Feb. 1, 2019, coming to the district from the State College School District.

There had been no previous indication that her retirement announcement had been in the offing. School board member Butch Knauff, asked to comment, told the record-online,  “I think she has been a very good hire for the district.  She guided the district through some very challenging times, both financially and through the pandemic. I wish her nothing but the best for her future. It has been my pleasure to work with her for the past year and a half. Now we will begin the very difficult task to find a superintendent that can lead us into the future.”

The superintendent’s announcement:

July 1, 2023

Dear Keystone Central Staff and Families,

I would like to share with you that I will be retiring from the Keystone Central School District effective at the conclusion of my contract which ends on January 31, 2024.

I have had the unique opportunity to finish my career of 33+ years in the same school district where my childhood education began at the Sugar Valley School.  Together, we have achieved so many things over the past several years.  I believe that the district is strong financially and our instructional improvement initiatives and programs are solidly articulated according to our comprehensive planning efforts.  The capital projects that have been completed and the projects planned for the future for our district facilities and fields reflect the importance of our commitment to the best educational experiences for our students.

The children and families in our district are fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated staff in every school and department and for that reason I am truly excited for the next chapter in the KCSD story.  Personally,  I am ready to take on the challenges and opportunities in my future and I plan to spend more time with my family, traveling and improving my golf game (which needs a lot of work).

My retirement date will be shortly after the conclusion of the first semester of the 2023-24 school year.  I am fully committed to continuing our critical work with all of you in the months ahead as we prepare to welcome children into another school year!

Thank you again for all you do…and especially for the opportunity to serve with you to grow our amazing students and serve the Keystone Central community.  Proud to be KCSD!

Dr. Jacquelyn Martin

The superintendent is a 1986 graduate of the former Sugar Valley High School.
