Bucks Edged by Montgomery
by Jim Morgan
FAREWELL – Bucktail (3-7) match up against Montgomery this past Tuesday was very even as indicated throuhout the game. Bucktail lost the game 68-64. The Bucks were fighting from behind the entire night as they never had the lead once. The most that they would fall behind was as high as seven points and that was at the beginning of the third quarter. Bucktail would tie the game seven times as they would be tied for the last time 49-49 with 3:14 left in the fourth quarter.
Bucktail allowed Montgomery to a 5-0 lead before scoring their own points on the board. By the end of the quarter, Coach Pentz would find players in foul trouble. Montgomery leading at the end of the quarter 22-17. Every charge that Bucktail would have going, Montgomery would come up with an answer. It was a night of survival on the court. Every player was racking up fouls before halftime and this was between both teams. Bucktail had a chance to tie the game up or take the lead right before hafltime as Josh Knauff stole the ball and was fouled going to the basket. The front of a one-on-one was missed as Montgomery was able to go down for a three point shot which was good as Montgomery was up 35-30.
With both Ryan’s in foul trouble and as Fantaskey and Prebble were on the bench. Derrick Long and Josh Knauff would start conducting an attack on the Montgomery gaurds. It was a good game and disprite all the emotions of losing. Coach Pentz should be proud on the way the Bucks played. Disprite on having three players fouling out. The Bucks played hard all night but just could not find that basket to send them over the edge for the lead.
Josh Knauff led all scoring with 27 points. Ryan Fantaskey had 15 points as Derrick Long help out with 14 points. Next up for the Bucks is on Thursday as they travel to St. John Neumann for the make-up game from last Friday. Then on Saturday the Bucks will travel to Millville for a 6:00 PM tip-off. Monday Bucktail will travel to South Williamsport for the 6:00 PM start. Next Wednesday, the Bucks will have their chances of revenge against Warrior Run as they host them at home starting at 6:00 PM.
