Lady Bucks Balance Out the Week

by Jim Morgan

bucks-basketballFAREWELL – This past Monday the Lady Bucks (8-3) took a step in the right direction as they defended the Lady Rams of Columbia-Montour VT 68-52. Maria Morgan and Tiffany Werts went to work on their game right from the beginning. Morgan finishing with ten assists in the game had six of them by the end of the first quarter as she would find Werts open underneath at will. Werts scoring 12 of her total 17 points in the first quarter as the Bucks led 24-13 at the end of the quarter.

Alaina Tripp led the scoring attack in the second quarter as she scored 4 of her total 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds on the night. Coach Gentzyel was able to sub off and on at will during the game as the Lady Bucks were able to keep a good lead throughout the gameas the Lady Bucks led at halftime 33-18.

In the third quarter, Coach Gentzyel was able to see balance scoring from his starting five. For CMVT, they surely did not give up as they hit 8 three’s and were 10 for 12 from the charity stripe. Coach Gentzyel mentioned that they do not give up at all. Morgan finished the night with 30 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds and 8 steals. Werts had 17 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Tripp had 8 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist. Cowfer had 6 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist. Nastasha Peck had 4 points and 3 rebounds. Emalea Mills had a big night as she scored 2 points and grabbed 9 rebounds and even had 2 steals.

The Lady Bucks (7-3) were at their rematch with Millville in just five days as the game was the same result from Monday night. Millville winning 58-43. They took over the second half just like they did before or did the Lady Bucks somewhat give up in the second half just like before. WHY you ask? It is the same story from last week.

In the first half Tiffany Werts scored all 12 of her points, nothing in the second half as she fouled out early in the fourth quarter. When you play good teams like Millville who is the defending District IV champs, you need to bring your game up. Not just one or two players, all ten of them on the Varsity team. Maria Morgan scored 15 of her total 18 points in the second half as the Lady Bucks only scored 21 total points in the second half. Morgan scored all 8 points in the third quarter as she continue to score her next 7 points before any other Lady Buck put points on the board.

Coach Gentzyel was very proud on the way Shae Cowfer played a box on one against Maci Bower of Millville even though she ended up fouling out. Coach Gentzyel tried other girls on her but they would start forgeting were she was on the court. Millville took full advantage of the second and third shots that the Lady Bucks defense was allowing them to have.

Hopefully the Lady Bucks can bounce back with some positive wins in the next couple of weeks. We are about to play these teams for the second time. Coach Gentzyel mentions that we cannot relax. They will be coming out to get us. We have to keep our mind on what needs to be done on the count as a player and a team.

The two games that have been postponed already have been reschedule. Montgomery’s game will now be on Monday January 26th at home. The Austin game will be played on Monday February 2nd which is also at home.

The Lady Bucks are looking for revenge on Friday January 16th as they host Bloomsburg at 6:00 PM. Then next Tuesday January 20th they host Muncy starting at 6:00 PM. Come on out and get these Lady Bucks pumped up. GOOD LUCK LADY BUCKS!!
