40th Annual Elks ―Hoop Shoot Competition

RENOVO – Renovo Elks Lodge #334, Hoop Shoot coordinator, Joe Riggle announced the date for this year’s Hoop Shoot competition will be Sunday, 25 January, 2015. The annual competition will be held at the Western Clinton County Recreation Authority Gym (old YMCA gym) located at 228 St Clair Avenue at 11 a.m.

This year marks the 40th year for the Annual Elks Hoop Shoot. The Hoop Shoot is the national free throw shooting contest for children ages 8 through 13. Nearly three million students from across the country entered last year’s competition for boys and girls in age categories 8 to 9; 10 to 11; and 12 to 13. Each contestant has 25 shots at the hoop. The boy and girl in each age group with the best scores advance through four tiers of competition to qualify for the national finals in Springfield, MA.

Local winners will compete against other contestants in the North Central District 28 March 2015. Winners from that competition will move up to the National meet on 18 April 2015. Names of the national winners will be inscribed on the Elks National Hoop Shoot plaque, on permanent display in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.
