“We Love America” Renovo Area Community Choir Concert planned for May 7

RENOVO, PA- The Renovo Area Community Choir will be presenting their spring concert May 7, 2023, 2:00 pm at the 7th Street – First United Methodist Church in Renovo. Under the direction of Patricia Lacy and accompanied by Diana Welshans, the choir will celebrate in song what we love about
America!

We begin the program with “This is My Country”, followed by “The Dawning of the Dream” talking about those who came to this land in search of hope and liberty. Next we honor some of our great cities ~ New York, New Orleans, Chicago and Hollywood, with “The Big City Sound”, a medley of familiar songs with a “big city beat”. Recognizing the power and majesty of our many rivers, we chose the American folk song, “Cross the Wide Missouri”.

Continuing down river to a Cajun hide-a-way, we’re sure you’ll enjoy “Mountain Music” made famous by Alabama! Finishing out the first half of our concert is “Golden Dream”, a dramatic selection from Disney World’s American Adventure featuring the voices of John F. Kennedy (Jamie Stone), Martin Luther King (Mitch Gavlock), and the moon landing with Neil Armstrong (Dan Heiser).

Charly Kepler will amaze everyone with her ability to name all “Fifty States in Rhyme” and then do it again double time! If we’re going to sing about why we love America, then we certainly can’t forget to include a “little country”.

Thanks to Autumn and Mitch Gavlock, they will cover that with “Where the Stars and Stripes and Eagles Fly” by Aaron Tippin. Get out your bells and whistles for a “Patriotic Salute” featuring “The Yankee Doodle Boy” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag” to start the second half of our concert. Expressing our feelings for our great land is the song “American Pride”, and then we’ll journey “Across America…In About Three Minutes”… hitting some very familiar places along the way. Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land” absolutely had to make the list of folk songs for the afternoon. The audience will be invited to join the choir in a medley consisting of “America”, “America, the Beautiful” and “God Bless America”.

Honoring our people past and present in our armed forces, we proudly sing Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.”. The choir will close our tribute to America with “A Place in the Valley” reminding us like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz…there’s no place like home!

We hope you will join us for this celebration of all that “We Love about America”.
