Words of Grace – Jan. 8, 2015

WordsOfGraceThe story is told about a man who was suffering from a cold that he was not able to shake off. As a last resort he went to see his doctor, hoping that he could cure him of it quickly.

When the doctor appeared to be baffled as to what he could do, he finally admitted to his patient that there was no cure for the common cold. He did, however, have one suggestion:

“I want you to go out into this cold winter rain,” he told the man, “and let yourself get chilled and soaked through and through.”

“But,” exclaimed the patient, “that would cause me to get pneumonia, wouldn’t it?”

“Certainly,” the doctor answered. “We can’t cure your cold, but we can cure pneumonia!”

The Lord Jesus is often referred to as the Great Physician. He did heal many who were sick and diseased, but Jesus was especially concerned for sinners who were in need of spiritual healing.

“They that are whole have no need of the physician,” Jesus said, “but they that are sick. I came, not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (Mark 2:17).
