‘Cats Stomp Millionaires 62-15
WILLIAMSPORT – The Central Mountain wrestling team showed no ill effects from a better than two-week holiday layoff, drubbing Williamsport in the Millionaires’ home gym Tuesday night, the final score 62-15.
The Wildcats used an old Central Mountain standby, lots of pins, to pile up their points. Six were recorded, including two first period deck jobs in the dual meet’s first two weights: first-time starter Bryce Bitner (1-0) with a pin in 27 seconds at 220 pounds, followed by heavyweight Bryce Hanley (13-3) and his fall in 49 seconds.
Geo Barzona (12-3) followed with a second period pin at 106 and with forfeits for Seth Andrus (10-4) at 113 and Keanan Bottorf (11-4) at 120, the route was on, the score 30-0 at that point.
Later falls followed for Caleb Turner (4-5) at 160 pounds and Hunter Weaver (9-4) at 182 and Loc Long (10-4) at 195 with first-period deck jobs to finish the dual meet at 62-15.
Demetri Probst (12-4), wrestling up a weight at 170 pounds in place of the injured Gavin Caprio, piled up a 20-5 technical fall; Colton Weaver (10-5) added a 19-5 major decision at 132 and Emery Watson (9-4) contributed a 15-0 technical fall at 138 pounds.
Caprio (12-1) and regular 182-pound starter Isaac Porter (7-3) both missed the dual meet and are listed as day-to-day with injuries.
The 4-0 Wildcats are right back in action, hosting Mifflinburg Thursday night, then a trip to Bucktail High School for a dual meet with Bald Eagle Area Saturday at 2 p.m. Central Mountain is then off until a mid-January showdown next Thursday, Jan. 15, home with undefeated Bellefonte.
Saturday’s dual at the Farwell gym is in recognition of Bucktail student Probst who has wrestled for Central Mountain for the last two years as part of a co-op program between the two schools. If Central Mountain defeats Mifflinburg Thursday, the match with BEA Saturday will be an opportunity for head coach Doug Buckwalter to win his 300th dual meet.
