For the Record – Dec. 31, 2014

Break-ins continue? …

It’s best to be sure to lock your doors when you’re not home and at night. Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but we’re hearing that Santa isn’t the only one who’s been visiting homes in the area. Santa was a welcomed visitor. Some others were not. So it’s also not a bad idea to keep it locked when you’re home, because according to rumor, there have been more than a few break-ins recently. Rumor has it that a number of the unwanted visits were on Ninth Street on both sides of Huron Avenue. We even heard that one of those unwanted visitors might live on Ninth Street, but not a clue if that’s true. We mentioned here a few weeks back that we had heard there were two or three homes broken into on the side of Ninth Street. We heard this weekend that at least one home on Ninth Street on the south side of Huron Avenue was broken into and that many items were stolen.

The future looks bright …

An article in this week’s edition of The Record we note that Bucktail Medical Center officials are optimistic that better days are ahead for their financial picture. BMC has struggled with its finances for years but this year was a really tough one. Administrator Timothy Reeves, who’s been on board since August of this year and controller George Gerber both praise BMC employees, directors and the local community for their continued support.

Gerber also praised Reeves for being up front with the staff about the medical center’s financial picture and keeping staff informed of changes as they occur and why they occur.

Library closed …

Ding Kriner tells us he’s heard the Renovo Public Library is closed for two weeks during the holidays. It makes no sense, Ding said. “That’s when the kids are out of school … when they use it.”

49 Years and counting …
Bud & The Dynamics will finish out there 49th year and bring in their 50th anniversary year at the Sons of Italy in Renovo New Year’s Eve beginning at 9 p.m.

Farwell Lights …

Upper Farwell residents are enjoying the colored lights of Christmas up and down Central Avenue thanks to their neighbor and fellow Farwell resident Malm Riggle. While we’re on the subject Renovo residents are also enjoying holiday lights and decorations on Huron and Erie avenues along with the very nice home decorations throughout this area.

Thriftmas …

I talked to a young mother recently who told me she some friends and family members who exchange gifts have found a way make shopping less of a hassle, they exchange gifts they buy in a thrift shop. They call it Thriftmas shopping. They find good gifts at much less expense and help the churches or organizations sponsoring the thrift shops at the same time. And they have fun doing it.
