Annual Veterans Day Assembly held at Bucktail High School
FARWELL, PA – It has become a much-anticipated tradition, the Veterans Day Assembly in the Dale Florey Gymnasium at Bucktail High School. The tradition continued Friday morning, this year’s theme “Duty, Honor, Country” as high school and elementary students gathered to honor the veterans in attendance for Veterans Day 2022.
Speakers included veterinarian Dr. Christina Livingston with the Patriot K9 Rescue of Elysburg and founder of Help for Pets; Harold “Dutch” Rinker, a retired state trooper and a veteran of the United States Air Force Working Dog and Explosives Unit; Dr. Jodi Wilson, a former captain with the Veterinary Corps of the United States Army and Dr. Kevin Wilson, a former Lt Commander, Medical Corps, with the United States Navy.
Dr. Jodi Wilson and Dr. Livingston offered insight into military service animals and their adoption after retirement.
The unfurling of a huge American Flag was again a program feature which also included a visual presentation from historian Rich Wykoff on Duty, Honor, Country.
The packed gymnasium stood for the 11th Hour tribute to honor those veterans in attendance. They came from Post 442 American Legion, Post 856 Marine Corps League, and Post 6178 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Also part of the program: the Bucktail Drumline, Jeremy Zuback with Eleven Drumbeats, and TAPS, from Brandon Kahley. Kedda Bissman and Kahley offered the National Anthem. The program closed with America the Beautiful recording from Courtney Mae Billings and Bumper from the Bucktail Drumline.
