Shik defeats Central Mountain girls’ soccer
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Lady Wildcats on Saturday welcomed the Lady Braves of Shikellamy, the visitors second in the HAC 1 and posting eleven wins on the season. The Shik girls picked up the win, 5-0.
The initial game plan was to match the back line of the visiting team in numbers and hope to isolate them in one-vs-one situations. The Lady Braves were very strong in the attacking end of the field and were a bit too much for the Lady Wildcats, pressing for four goals in the first half. After some changes in formation and halftime, the Lady Wildcats adjusted well in the second half.
The second half was a little more organized and stopped the Lady Braves from causing a lot of problems on the defensive end of the Lady Cats part of the field. Shikellamy did tally one more goal in the second half, but the Lady Wildcats did prevent a few attacks with solid marking, physical play and reading the game. The home side did put more pressure on the visitors and had some moments that built some excitement, but the home side just couldn’t get any clear-cut shots. The Lady Wildcats were a bit more clinical in the second half and competed for loose balls which kept the game from slipping away any further from them. Shikellamy is a quality team who move the ball very well, it was difficult to keep up with them as this was the third game in three days and the Lady Wildcats have given all they have.
The JV were also tested and did their best as they endured a strong attack and allowed three shots to hit the net. The JVs have one more game scheduled this season.
Central Mountain now spends the rest of the season on the road. Monday they travel to Midd-West for a non-conference game and then head north to North Penn-Mansfield on Thursday for the final game of the season.
