Lewisburg downs CM girls’ soccer

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – Lewisburg made the Thursday trek to Central Mountain High School with a 9-5 record and a third-place spot in the HAC 1 standings. Not an easy game for the Lady Wildcats as it was the second game in three days and the beginning of three games in a row. As noted by Lady ‘Cat coach Ryan Veltri, it is not an easy schedule and even more daunting to have a couple of the league leaders within the same week. The result was a 5-0 win for the visitors.

The Lady Dragons jumped out to a three-goal lead in the first half. The Lady Wildcats did their best to keep up with the tactical game plan of the visiting team but found themselves chasing the game throughout the half. There were pockets of attack from the home side, they just couldn’t get any clear-cut chances to put one in the net.

The second half was a bit more organized and the Lady Wildcats did break up play in the midfield. There were moments were there was link up play and balls into dangerous spaces. The Lady Wildcats remained competitive and challenged for the ball. The Lady Dragons added two more goals, one with seven seconds left in the game. The score line once again seemed lopsided, the Lady Dragons are a quality side but the blue and white gave away some easy goals by not trailing players into the box and beating their marks to the ball.

Afterword, Coach Veltri noted, “Again the Lady Wildcats are building and learning. They are working hard and that will pay off in the future. They are being guided by great senior leadership. We are taking steps in the right direction, maybe not the biggest steps but positive ones.”
