CM boys’ soccer falls 2-0 to Jersey Shore

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – Coming off last Friday’s 3-0 win over Mifflin County, the Central Mountain boys’ soccer team was hoping to build some momentum in a Senior Night contest with downriver rival Jersey Shore Monday night. But the visiting Bulldogs had other ideas, netting two second half goals to go home with a hard-earned 2-0 win.

The match was scoreless through the first half as shots were hard to come by for both teams. But the Bulldogs got two good chances in the second half and converted both. The first came at the 35:40 mark when ‘Shore’s Peyton Welshans came across the middle and put the ball in the net. Jersey Shore added an insurance goal at the 14:00 mark in the second half. The Bulldogs’ Carter Stackhouse drilled the ball off the body of the Wildcat goal keep and Nick Bellomo followed up with the score.

The ’Shore defense held Central Mountain to just one shot on goal; meanwhile the Bulldogs had six shots on goal. Corner kicks were 6-4 in favor of the visitors.

Wildcat seniors recognized before the game were Isaiah Conoway, Kyle Stahl, Nate Brinker, Braylon Gentzel, Ben Fortescue, and  Blake Falk. Brinker, the team’s leading scorer, played sparingly at the start of the game with his senior teammates but did not return; he is dealing with a knee injury.

The Wildcat JVs won their contest by a 2-0 score.

Central Mountain heads to Shamokin on Wednesday, returning home for an 11 a.m. Saturday contest with Tyrone.
