KCSD – Commonwealth University schools pursing guaranteed admission program

FARWELL, PA – Keystone Central School District Superintendent Jacquelyn Martin said at the school board work session Thursday night that a formal announcement is due soon on a guaranteed admission program for Keystone Central graduates to attend any of the three campuses of the recently integrated Lock Haven, Bloomsburg and Mansfield universities.

The three schools are part of the newly configured, as of July 1 of this year, Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania. She said the guaranteed admission agreement has been in the developmental stage in recent weeks; for those that qualify, it would mean reduced tuition to attend any of the three schools. The superintendent said look for an announcement as soon as Oct. 11, with a school board approval vote as soon as the board’s Oct. 13 voting session.

Dr. Martin noted the public update on the future of the Liberty-Curtin Elementary School, held on Tuesday of this week. She said the board wants to explore the option of a single-story new building at the present building site in Blanchard. Details on the consultant’s study can be found on the district website and she encouraged the public to review the study and offer input. There was virtually no public comment at Tuesday’s session, attended by some 40 people.

The work session was held at the Bucktail High School in Farwell. The superintendent asked for and received a round of applause for the Bucktail girls’ tennis team which, with a 3-2 win over South Williamsport, moved to 16-0 and the Mid-Penn Conference championship just as the board work session began.
