Lady Bucks inch closer to MPC crown following 5-0 win at Neumann
By Bees O’Brien
WILLIAMSPORT, PA- Bucktail tennis has gained many accolades since Dan and Allison Heiser took over the once battered and bruised program in 2007. The Lady Bucks have captured several Northern Tier League titles, but one championship has eluded the program. On Monday night Bucktail locked up at least a share of the Mid Penn Conference championship and can lock that crown up on Thursday at home against South Williamsport following their 5-0 victory over St. John Neumann.
Bucktail’s singles once again dominated by going a perfect 3-0. Kayla Probert, Alexis Lowery and Bella English were up to their old tricks and easily dispatched the Lady Golden Knights singles lineup.
Giada Demarte and Kori Prebble cruised to a doubles victory, as did Makenna Stone and Kendall Wagner to complete the sweep against Neumann.
Bucktail will now go on the road and face their toughest task to date against 14-1 Jersey Shore. This contest will have huge District 4 playoff implications.
The biggest and perhaps most interesting match could be when Kayla Probert squares off against the Lady Dawgs’ Peyton Dincher at the one spot. Both are having unbelievable seasons.
Bucktail (15-0, 7-0 MPC) currently leads the PIAA District IV 2A field, but it’s a tight race in this final week of regular season. The top 8 qualify for the postseason. Central Columbia, Hughesville, Jersey Shore, Montoursville, Cowanesque Valley, South Williamsport and Loyalsock round out the current top 8. Montgomery will be chasing the Lady Lancers this week with hopes of snagging that final spot. Lewisburg is also within striking distance of extending their season as well.
Meanwhile the Lady Bucks can lock up their first ever MPC outright championship with a victory over South Williamsport (8-3) in Farwell on Thursday. Bucktail already owns a 3-2 victory over the Lady Mounties at South on Sept. 8.
