Central Mountain girls’ soccer battles on

MONTOURSVILLE, PA – The Central Mountain Lady Wildcat soccer team on Wednesday visited Montoursville, the number 6th ranked team in the state and were on their back foot for most of the night, ultimately falling by a 6-0 score.

Knowing what they would be facing, the Lady Wildcat team did not back down or park the bus, the tactical plan was to try and play against a very technical and organized team who came into the game unbeaten. The Lady Wildcats did a few things right but could not put all the pieces together to mount much of an attack. Coach Ryan Veltri said the game management was to “test ourselves against a side who will have a deep run into the playoffs and look to get into the state tournament.”

The first half ended with the Blue and White conceding three goals. The second half was much of the same as the Lady Warriors equaled the first half’s tally. The Lady Cats did not back down and did the best as they are still working through getting the full squad back on the field.

The JV team was up against even bigger odds as at times, had six players on the field against 9 from the other side (not including goal keepers). With numbers uneven, it was difficult to keep up with play and organize marks. The focus was to compete and show effort even though playing players down. The second half was a much better effort, and some good things came from lifting the level of play.

The Lady Wildcats are still working towards goals of post-season play, although it seems out of reach now, the Blue and White have their sight on some teams coming up in the future with whom they believe they can compete with. Coach Veltri said, “Never underestimate positive thinking and heart.”
The Lady Wildcats are to visit Milton Saturday afternoon.
