LHU: Men’s soccer soars at Shepherd, continues unbeaten streak
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (4-4-2, 2-1-2 PSAC East) traveled to Shepherd University (1-6-3, 0-5-1 PSAC East) for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest which saw the Bald Eagles post a 3-1 road-conference victory.
The win improves the Bald Eagles’ unbeaten streak to four games. The victory also marks six straight wins in the series against the Rams.
In the 12th minute, LHU’s early attacking scheme sparked the scoreboard as Samuel Hershey (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) netted his seventh goal of the season.
Connor Burke (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) sent home his first goal of the season for Lock Haven with a header in the 30th minute to improve their lead to 2-0. Connor Swope (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) and Ryan Foskey (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) helped create the chance, each earning an assist on the connection.
Shepherd broke up the clean sheet when a converted penalty kick in the 68th minute gave the home team life and cut The Haven lead to 2-1.
The 87th minute silenced the home team’s chances as Hershey blasted a penalty kick into the net to give the Bald Eagles a 3-1 road victory.
Lock Haven’s offense made their presence felt as the attacking side landed ten shots on goal and created ten corners. Hershey’s two goals now place him in third in the PSAC with eight goals.
The defense, led by Connor Burke (Schnecksville, Pa/ Parkland), Ryan Foskey (Gilbertsville, Pa/Boytertown) and Duc Do (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) held strong on the pitch, only allowing two shots on goal throughout the match.
