LHU: Men’s soccer grabs tie with Millersville in last-minute thriller
MILLERSVILLE, PA – The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (2-4-2, 0-1-2 PSAC East) traveled to Millersville University (3-1-3, 1-0-2 PSAC East) for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match, which saw the two teams end in an exciting 3-3 tie.
In the opening half, the Bald Eagles took the early lead as Connor Swope (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) sent one into the net in the 19th minute with an assist from Davis Dull (Altoona, Pa./Blair County Christian) to give The Haven a 1-0 lead.
The Marauders evened the score line with a 44th minute goal to tie it at 1-1 to end the first half.
Samuel Hershey (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) regained the lead for LHU in the 53rd minute with a penalty kick to push the Bald Eagles back into the lead, 2-1.
Millersville lit up the scoreboard in the next six minutes, delivering two goals in the 56th and 59th minute to take the lead, 3-2, with just thirty minutes left to play.
The Bald Eagles fought hard accumulating six shots in the final thirty minutes. The last shot struck gold for Lock Haven as Hershey scored again after a free kick left him open to beat the goalie with just five seconds remaining on the afternoon to tie up the final score, 3-3.
The two PSAC members combined for 32 shots, 15 shots on goal, and ten corners.
Colton Swanson (Bradford, Pa./Bradford), Swope, Hershey, Dean Lewis (Belfast, Northern Ireland/Model Boys School), and Davis Dull (Altoona, Pa./Blair County Christian) all created multiple shots themselves with Swope and Hershey converting their opportunities for LHU goals.
