Williamsport downs Wildcat Boys Soccer 2-1
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA- Central Mountain Wildcat soccer team hosted PHAC opponent Williamsport for a showdown at Malinak Stadium Thursday night. The first half of the game both teams were busy trying to create scoring opportunities, shots on goal, and dangerous set pieces. It was a 0-0 tie at halftime.
Williamsport would open things up early in the second half scoring the first goal of the game taking a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats would continue to battle back. A throw in led to Nate Brinker beating a few defenders and slotting home an outside shot just inside the post, the fifth goal of his senior season to make it a 1-1 tie game.
Both teams would pick up the tempo trying to set something up as the half would wind down. A late chance by Williamsport was the difference. A ball hit high into the box led to a scramble in front of the goal, and the Wildcats were unable to clear it out. Williamsport would take the lead 2-1.
Williamsport looked to slow things down but the in the final seconds of the game Freshman Wildcat Griffin Confer earned a corner kick. A ball bounced around the box for a few seconds before Junior Zane Cooper ripped a shot on net, but a great save by the Williamsport keeper kept it 2-1.
The Wildcats are right back in action on the road Saturday at Central Columbia.
The JV kept their unbeaten season alive with a 1-1 tie. A late penalty kick by Max Verrelli brought the Wildcats even to avoid the first loss of their season.
