Schulze is pick for new Keystone Central school board member

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – Dr. Frederick “Rick” Schulze, a longtime faculty member in the Health Science Department at Community University-Lock Haven, is the newest member of the Keystone Central School Board.

Schulze was the unanimous choice of the sitting eight board members at a special meeting Thursday night. He replaces Boise “Bo” Miller who stepped down a month ago as the board representative from Keystone’s District VIII, Flemington borough and Castanea and Bald Eagle Townships.

Schulze, a Castanea resident, serves as chairman of the township recreation committee and has been a principal in the university’s annual community health fair. He told the board, prior to the vote, he has been in education for over 20 years and as he nears retirement wants to devote more time to community service; he said his background has been primarily with youth and youth services.

Schulze was selected over Tom Cannon of Bald Eagle Township. Cannon, a 14-year employee with PennDOT, said he has been involved with the Bald Eagle Township Sewer Authority and noted his work with youth in fishing and trail running. Cannon said he had a strong interest in the trades and expressed a desire to help influence children through school board service.

Board member Elisabeth Lynch said she wished both applicants could serve on the board.

Board president Tracy Smith said Schulze will serve through 2023 and the Region VIII slot will be on the ballot next year.
