Wildcat boys’ soccer in 3-3 standoff with Warrior Run
TURBOTVILLE, PA – Central Mountain boys’ soccer coach Billy Hook summed it up best: “What a game!”
Traveling to Warrior Run Tuesday night, the boys’ soccer team wanted to keep the losing column at zero. Everyone in attendance was able to witness an amazing game from both teams.
Just two minutes in, Warrior Run took a 1-0 lead off a shot that deflected off a defender (a Wildcat defender, not a Warrior Run Defender) and into the net. CM would not hesitate to tie it up. A cross from Peyton Jones found Jack Grieco for his first career goal with the first-time finish. Not much later, Jones found himself tucking a goal away, off of Nate Brinker’s assist. A screamer of a goal by Warrior Run tied the game at 2 apiece heading into halftime.
Making a few adjustments at halftime, the Wildcats were able to take the lead midway through the second half. Asher Talbot played Jones who put his second away on the night, a right footed volley that the left footed junior will remember for years to come. Two goals on the night bringing Jones’ season total to three. The assist was Talbot’s second of the season.
Up 3-2, the Wildcats thought they would pull it out. Until a late free kick was buried by Warrior Run to tie it up 3-3 with just 5 seconds remaining.
Two ten-minute overtime periods followed without any goals, both teams having chances but defensively able to keep the ball out of the net.
Coach Hook had good things to say after the game: “The backline played phenomenal for the Wildcats. Braylon Gentzel seemed to appear out of nowhere at the right time all night. Isaiah Brinker dominated in the air, and Ben Fortescue covered the back line all night. Isiaiah Conoway made a game saving tackle late in the second overtime to preserve the tie.
JV tied zero zero in the first game. Jaggar Pardoe with the shutout in goal.
The Wildcats are 1-0-1, with their home opener vs. Montoursville on Thursday.
