LHU: Early goal pushes Women’s Soccer to road win over Pitt-Johnstown
JOHNSTOWN, PA – The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (2-0) used an early goal to secure a hard-fought win over Pitt-Johnstown (0-1-1), 1-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West crossover matchup on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, The Haven improved to 2-0 on the young season, and it marks the second year in a row where Lock Haven has started the season with two straight wins.
The Bald Eagles got things rolling early on, as Jocey Francis (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) got on the end of an assist from Leana Cuzzocrea (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) and put it away in the top corner just 5:29 into the match.
LHU held the 1-0 advantage until halftime despite an action filled first 45 minutes, which saw 13 total shots between the two teams.
The shots continued in the second half, but both goalkeepers were up to the task. In total, the two goalkeepers combined for 12 saves.
For LHU, Megan Miller (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) started in goal and made five saves for her first career clean sheet and the first of the season for the Bald Eagles.
In front of Miller, Sydney Cauffman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood (Shepherd)), Leah Jensen (Harrisburg,Pa./Susquehanna Twp.(Concord)) and Abby Burdyn (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) combined on the backline to stifle the Mountain Cats attack and record the clean sheet.
The Bald Eagles fired off 14 shots and held a 14-11 lead over the Mountain Cats in total shots. Burdyn led LHU with three total shots, and Josie Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) posted two of her own.

The Bald Eagles get back in action on Wednesday, August 31 when they travel to Millersville. That game is slated to kickoff at 7 p.m. and will serve as the PSAC Eastern Division opener for LHU.
