CM boys’ soccer hoping to build on 2021 district showing
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Central Mountain boys soccer team had its share of both success and excitement a year, including a pulsating overtime District 6 semifinal win at favored Bellefonte. Coach Bill Hook and his team would like to build on that in 2022.
So far, so good this year, coach Hook told The Record: “Practices have started out well. Players are working hard, focused and learning. We’re ready to get our first scrimmage underway. We have 33 players out this year, seven of which are returning lettermen.”
He said the Wildcat goal this season is to continue to improve as a soccer team and hoping that leads to another successful ending to the season. He said, “Getting back to the district finals would be a very nice place to be.”
As the team brings back more than half of its goals from last season, Hook said, “We will be looking at our attack to be even more dangerous.”
As for the defense, Hook said, the team is replacing two starters on the backline plus its goalie, noting, “We need to find guys to step up in those positions, and we need them to do so very quickly.”
Once again, the Wildcat schedule will be daunting, Hook telling The Record, “The Heartland will be competitive as always. Truly one of the more difficult conferences in the state. Our non-conference schedule gives us a good balance of teams we don’t see often that bring their own unique challenges to learn from and help us in our push for the post-season.”
Central Mountain was scheduled for a scrimmage at Mifflin County on Tuesday of this week, opening the regular season at Penns Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
