The Homey Feeling – Tilda’s to open August 13

By Christopher Miller

A lot of buzz has been going on in the Renovo area recently after word of a new restaurant was shared and spread over social media.

Getting ready to open at the corner of 8th Street and Huron Avenue is Tilda’s, the brainchild of area residents Tim Yost and Marybeth Mansfield.

“Our grand opening is Saturday, August 13,” Marybeth proudly told The Record in a phone interview last week. “We’ve gotten a lot of good feedback from the folks who live around our new shop and they’re all excited for us.”

The restaurant idea stemmed from Marybeth, who has worked in the restaurant business for over 25 years and always wanted to own her own business.

“The most challenging thing so far has been all of the building the work – redoing the floors, painting all of the rooms, cleaning until you cannot feel your fingers anymore – I want this place to feel like home for people, and for it to have that homey feeling,” said Marybeth.

“Tim,” (Marybeth’s fiancé), “is the one who made this all happen for me,” said Marybeth. “He works up in Canton two weeks on, two weeks off, so we moved up to Farwell to be closer to our grandson when I was talking to the owner of where we live that we wanted to meet the person who owned Big Louie’s building.” And from there, that meeting set off a chain of events that ended up with what is being known and talked about in Renovo today as Tilda’s.

Tim and Marybeth, who want to bring something new to the community, will be serving up meals all day every day to hungry neighbors and passersby.

“We’ll have a full host of foods: 14” pizzas, wings, hoagies and sandwiches, a carb-friendly menu with cauliflower pizzas and wraps, fish, fresh-cut fries and sweet potato fries, hot dogs, chili dogs, and sit-down dinners,” Marybeth explained. “On opening day our dinner specials will be Lasagna, Spaghetti and Meatballs, and Chicken Alfredo (plain or cajun).”

On Saturday’s and Sunday’s, hungry folks can come on in for the breakfast buffet from 7am to 10am, or can order from the menu which will consist of favorites such as sausage gravy over biscuits, home fries, toast, eggs, sausage, bacon, omelets, and the like.

“Many places around here are closed now on certain days,” Marybeth explained. “We will be open seven days a

week for people to come, sit, and eat.”
“We will listen to the community and their requests for menu items, or different hours,” said Marybeth.

And the name, Tilda’s, is the nickname of Marybeth’s granddaughter, Matilda.
“She’s been called Tilda ever since she was born,” she said.
