Ex-players, students honor retired LHHS football coach Don Malinak
FLEMINGTON, PA – Saturday was a red-letter day at the Red Eye Sports Center in Flemington as legendary Lock Haven High School football coach Don Malinak was recognized on his 90th birthday.
Former LHHS students, many of them former Bobcat players, turned out to fete the retired coach/teacher.
Members from Malinak’s 1959 football team unveiled a plaque to be placed at the Central Mountain High School football field, name earlier this decade as Don Malinak Stadium.
Honors bestowed on Malinak came from Lock Haven Mayor Joel Long who presented a proclamation from the City declaring July 7, the coach’s birthdate, as Don Malinak Day and 76th District Rep. Stephanie Borowicz offered a congratulatory citation from the state House of Representatives.
Malinak lives in retirement in Flemington. He is a native of Steelton, PA and a graduate of Penn State where he served as captain of the football team.
