Keystone 10s mount comeback for 15-9 win over South

LONG RUN, PA – The Keystone 10 All-Stars in their Tuesday opening game kept it close through four innings, then exploded in the bottom of the fifth, sending 17 batters to the plate and scoring 12 runs. That half inning served to power the Keystoners from a 7-3 deficit into a 15-7 lead and an ultimate 15-9 win over visiting South Williamsport.

The victory for Manager Tony Miller’s team moved Keystone into a Thursday winners’ bracket semifinal, the opponent Montoursville, the game to be played at 5:45 p.m. at Hepburn.

Chase Karstetter carried the big bat for Keystone, especially in the pivotal bottom of the fifth. Carter Miller hit a one-out single, followed by a fielder’s choice and an RBI single from Ehan Nestor to cut the South lead to 7-4. Karstetter followed with a mammoth 2-run homer over the center field fence to shave the South lead to 7-6. At that point the hits came in bunches: a single from Brad Brungard, a single from Mack Packer, a single (his second of the inning) from Miller and two batters later, after a walk and an error, Karstetter delivered an RBI triple into the right centerfield gap; Brungard drew a walk and Rylin Bathurst had a pinch hit single. Add it all up: 12 runs, eight hits, three walks and one error.

South Williamsport battled all evening and put up two runs in the top of the sixth to set the final at 15-9. Kasretter also had an earlier single and finished with three hits. Brungard, Packer and Miller all had two singles each; other singles came from Nestor, Bathurst and Brayden Wolfgang.

South was led at the plate by Logan McGinn, Logan Nolan and Easton Yetter with two singles each. McGinn, who had held Keystone to three runs through the first four innings, took the loss.

Four pitchers, Karstetter, Packer, Nestor and Carter Leone, shared the pitching duties, Nestor picking up the win. Collectively, they gave up nine runs, nine hits, struck out four and walked six. Other than a few infield miscues, the defense was solid behind them.
