Flags of Honor ceremony is Sunday

LOCK HAVEN — Flags of Honor have hit a record number this year — 143! Thanks to all the individual sponsors, this year’s Flags of Honor display will make an incredible sight in Triangle Park this weekend.
The general public and all the sponsors are invited to attend a Memorial Day Weekend Ceremony at the park, Sunday at 12 noon. Be sure to bring lawn chairs.
Flags of Honor booklets will be distributed starting at 11:30 a.m., and events will start at 12 noon. Kimberly Vance will sing the National Anthem, followed by Rotary Assistant Governor Diahann Claghorn who will say a few words. The solemn ceremony will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1630, at the large flagpole.
The 143 full-sized flags, each one remembering or honoring someone special, are scheduled to be placed tomorrow evening. (Bad weather may move that to Saturday morning.)
The Flags of Honor project is organized and run by the Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven, with support from Nestlerode’s Contracting Co. This year corporate sponsorships were offered for the first time, and the first-ever corporate sponsors are Woodlands Bank, Fox’s Restaurant, and Turbulence. In addition, Redmond’s Complete Comfort has earned Gold Medal Sponsor status again for sponsoring a total of 19 flags.
