Central Mountain softball claims D-6 title, 5-3 over rival Bellefonte
LORETTO, PA – The Central Mountain softball team scored early and held off Bellefonte late, the end result a 5-3 Lady Wildcat win in the District 6 Class 5A championship contest at Saint Francis of Loretto on Wednesday,
The win put the 19-2 Lady ‘Cats into a post-season PIAA play-in game scheduled for DuBois (13-4) at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31. Bellefonte finished the year at 12-8.
Harley Kunes had the big hits for CM against Bellefonte, including a 2-run first inning triple, a 2-run second inning single and later added another single to pace a 6-hit ‘Cat attack.
Addie McKeague picked up the win for Central Mountain, pitching into the seventh inning, allowing six hits, three runs (two of them earned), striking out seven and walking three.
The winner of next Tuesday’s CM-DuBois game will move into the first round of the PIAA playoffs, scheduled for Monday, June 6 against the third place team from the WPIAL (District 7).
