TIOGA, PA- Bucktail’s 2022 season continued to set milestones Wednesday at Williamson. The Lady Bucks offense was in full gear against the NTL’s Lady Warriors, Bucktail connected on 16 hits and had a big day from Mak Wagner to down Williamson 11-0 in five innings to improve to 17-2 as the regular season has drawn to a close.
The 17 wins ties the 2019 District Champion Lady Bucks for most regular season wins in program history.
Bucktail would chip away at Williamson sophomore pitcher McKenna Buchanan starting in the second inning with a pair of runs. The Lady Bucks would score a run in the third and 2 more in the fourth inning. Bucktail then would explode for 6 runs in the top of the fifth inning that was capped off with a 2 RBI single from Giada DeMarte.
Buchanan managed to collect her 100th career strike out despite being on the receiving end of a 10-run mercy rule loss.
It was Emma Poorman and Mak Wagner that did the duties for the Lady Bucks in the circle. The duo combined for five shutout innings, while striking out 9 Lady Warriors. Williamson managed just 4 hits.
Bucktail’s offense was powered by Wagner’s perfect 4 for 4 day. She also knocked in 3 runs and collected a pair of triples. Poorman, Jordan Burrows, Lily Francis, Raileigh Isaacs and Kayla Probert all collected two hits each. Isaacs and Probert both knocked in 2 RBI’s, as did DeMarte with her fifth inning single.
Bucktail now will play the waiting game and watching a few scores develop around District 4 1A. The Lady Bucks currently hold the number two spot in the current power standings. Their destination and opponents are still yet to be decided.
Sullivan County can automatically give Bucktail a home field quarterfinal game by at least splitting their double header with St. John Neumann Thursday. A single win would qualify the Lady Griffins for the playoffs and they would join Millville as the latest entries into the 1A field.
Cowanesque Valley, Montgomery and Canton all trail the Lady Bucks. Canton is done playing regular season games, but Cowanesque Valley is set to have a rematch with 3A title contender NP-Liberty Thursday.
Montgomery finishes up their regular season hosting state powerhouse 2A Williams Valley on Friday.
Northeast Bradford has already concluded their regular season and locked up the number one spot in the 1A district playoffs.
