Wagner shuts down Lady Quakers in Bucktail come from behind win at Millville

By Bees O’Brien

MILLVILLE, PA- Millville is still a dangerous team. The Lady Bucks found out just how hungry the Lady Quakers were to get back into the District 4 1A playoffs. Last season Millville needed to win their final four games to reach the playoffs. They did just that and then some with their 15-3 upset win over Bucktail in the quarterfinals on the road.

For three innings Monday Carlee Charles was up to her old tricks in the circle against Bucktail. Charles silenced the Bucktail bats for two innings, holding them scoreless. Millville had a surprising 3-0 lead before Bucktail finally scored two runs in the top of the third inning.

Bucktail finally overcame Charles and the Lady Quakers in the fourth with two more runs to take the go-ahead lead at 4-3.

Bucktail would score a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to hold a 7-3 lead.

Mak Wagner would silence the Millville bats after relieving Emma Poorman in the second inning. Wagner would strike out 11 in 6 innings of work and only allowed one hit during that span.

Bucktail (12-1) would tack on 6 more runs in the top of the seventh inning to finish off a 13-3 road win.

Haley Burrows, Wagner and Lily Francis would each have 2-hit games. Wagner would knock in 2 RBI’s, score a run and collect five stolen bases. Burrows would slam a triple, score 4 runs, steal 5 bases and collect an RBI. Francis collected a double and would score a pair of runs.

Jordan Burrows, Matti Mason and Raileigh Isaacs each collected hits as well for Bucktail.

Millville (6-8) is still very much in the playoff hunt. They join Sullivan County (4-6) and St. John Neumann (5-8) fighting for playoff spots as the season is running towards the finish line.

Northeast Bradford (10-1), Montgomery (11-2), Cowanesque Valley (13-3) and Canton (11-4) have all joined Bucktail as teams that have already qualified for the District 4 1A playoffs.

The Lady Bucks return to action Tuesday afternoon with a trip to Williamsport to face St. John Neumann, then host Montgomery Wednesday and Muncy on Thursday..
