Wildcat softball team pulls out 8-7 win D-6 clash with Bellefonte

BELLEFONTE, PA – In a rematch of last year’s District 6 5A finals, the Central Mountain Lady Wildcats claimed an 8-7 victory over the Lady Raiders of Bellefonte in an exciting Monday clash.

Central Mountain led 5-0 in the middle of the fifth inning.  Starting pitcher Allison Lininger allowed only two hits through four innings and recorded four strikeouts.  However, Bellefonte found their bats in the bottom of the fifth and put up four runs on four hits to bring the score to 5-4 after five.

The Lady ‘Cats were held scoreless in the sixth inning and Addie McKeague took over in the circle for the bottom of the sixth.  Bellefonte added three runs in the inning on four hits to take the lead at 7-5 going into the final frame.  But as they have all year, Central Mountain refused to fold and put up three runs on four hits to retake the lead 8-7.

Bellefonte led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple to put a runner on third with no outs.  The next batter grounded to the pitcher who threw to first for the first out and the first baseman threw home to catch the runner at third trying to advance to complete the double play.  The next batter flew out to left field to end the game.

Madisyn Wian had 3 hits to lead the Wildcats while Caitlyn Watson and Gracie Saar chipped in 2 hits each and Allison Lininger, Harley Kunes, Sophie Mitchell and Kelsey Burrows each had one hit.

The win moved Coach Fred Caldwell’s team to 15-2 on the year, Bellefonte falling to 10-5 with the loss. They remain 1-2 in the District 6 Class 5A standings.
