Wagner K’s 16, Poorman gets RBI 100; Lady Bucks avenge playoff loss 9-0
FARWELL, PA – Bucktail’s 2021 season ended in the blink of an eye last season. The 3-seeded Lady Bucks entered district play following a 15-win season and were matched with 6-seeded Millville. The Lady Quaker would ride the arm of Carlee Charles and dismantle Bucktail 15-3.
Charles was in the circle for Millville again on Saturday afternoon, but it wouldn’t be the Millville junior putting on the show in the circle. Mak Wagner would put on a show. The Bucktail pitcher racked up 16 strike outs and allow just five hits over a complete 7 innings as the Lady Bucks cruised to a 9-0 Mid Penn Conference victory.
Bucktail (7-0, 6-0) would light up Charles this time around. Senior Emma Poorman, one night removed from recording her 200th strike out, would go over 100 RBI’s for her career in the Bucktail first.
Wagner was tested all day long, but she continued to silence every single Millville rally attempt, which began in the top of the first inning. The Lady Quakers would get a big hit from Charles up the gap between shortstop and third base. With runners in scoring position, Wagner would get her second strike out of the inning, halting the Millville at bat.
A walk from Haley Burrows would eventually lead to the first run of the game. Burrows would race home after hesitating on a passed ball and score. Wagner would hit into a fielder’s choice, which allowed Poorman to knock her in on a hard-hit single to get RBI 100.
Bucktail led Millville (3-3) 2-0, but again the visitors would threaten. With two runners on, Wagner would go to work. Three straight strikeouts would silence the Lady Quakers at bat.
The Lady Bucks continued to have Charles’ number throughout the day. In the third inning Haley Burrows started another rally with a triple. Wagner was up next and would score Burrows on a single. Poorman’s groundout to second base would score Wagner and give Bucktail the 4-0 lead.
Millville put everything they had into the game. The fourth inning saw the Lady Quakers again threatening, but an excellent throw from Alexis Lowery from right field would be on target for a put out at third. The next batter would connect on a fly ball to right field that was beautifully caught by Rayleigh Isaacs to end the inning.
Isaacs would start Bucktail off on the right track in the fourth inning. Her single to start the inning would lead to her scoring and Kayla Probert would eventually following her being struck by a pitch. Jordan Burrows would deliver a 2 RBI single scoring both Isaacs and Probert.
The Lady Bucks, up 6-0 heading into the fifth inning, put up their best inning of the day. A double from Lily Francis and an RBI single from Matti Mason would eventually lead to pinch runner Giada Demarte, Francis and Mason scoring to extend the lead to 9-0.
Wagner would ease through the Millville batters the last two innings to give the Lady Bucks their first victory over a winning team this season.
Wagner, Haley Burrows, Jordan Burrows, Poorman, Lily Francis, Matti Mason Rayleigh Isaacs and Alexis Lowery each collected hits for Bucktail. Francis connected on a double, while Haley Burrows and Lowery each had triples.
Bucktail will travel to Galeton on Monday, host Columbia Montour Vo-Tech on Tuesday before their big clash in Montgomery on Thursday.
