Emma Poorman collects strikeout 200, throws no-hitter in 10-0 Lady Bucks win

FARWELL, PA- If there were a Mount Rushmore of Bucktail athletics, little would argue that Emma Poorman would be the softball representative. Poorman continued her historic career at Bucktail on Friday afternoon against Sullivan County.

Poorman needed just three strike outs to reach the 200 strikeout milestone in the circle. She would eventually pick up that magic number in the top of the third inning.

It wasn’t the typical blow-out victory for Bucktail. Sullivan County’s defense kept the Lady Bucks offense in check through three at bats.

Bucktail would start their half of the first on a good note with a single from Jordan Burrows. Burrows would eventually steal her way to third base. A Sullivan County wild pitch would result in Burrows scoring and giving Bucktail the 1-0 lead.

Poorman was on target throughout the shortened five-inning game, but she found herself in some trouble in the second inning. A pair of walks and an infield error would load the bases for the Lady Griffins. Poorman would get an infield groundout to Haley Burrows with two outs to end the inning.

Matti Mason continued her hot streak at the plate for the Lady Bucks in the bottom of the second and would eventually lead to her scoring on an infield bunt single from Raileigh Isaacs to give Bucktail the 2-0 lead.

Sullivan continued to struggle at the plate. Bucktail’s lockdown defense held tight for the next two innings. In typical Bucktail fashion, the Lady Bucks would go on an offensive explosion in the bottom of the fourth.

Back to back walks from Lily Francis and Mason, a sac bunt from Isaacs led to runners in scoring position for Alexis Lowery. Lowery would single to score Francis and Kayla Probert would follow that up with a single of her own to score Mason.

Mason and Lowery would then both score on a Haley Burrows double, which eventually led to Burrows being driven in by a Mak Wagner single to complete the 7-run Bucktail inning.

Up 9-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, Lowery began the fifth inning by reaching on an error and she would eventually scoring the tenth run on a wild pitch and ending the game by 10-run mercy rule at 10-0.

Poorman picked up the win, her 200th career strikeout and her third no-hitter of 2022. She was also chasing another milestone on Friday afternoon. She entered the game with 99 career RBI’s, one shy of 100. She can reach that goal on Saturday when Bucktail hosts Millville in a rematch of last year’s District 4 1A quarterfinals. That game saw the 3-seeded Lady Bucks fall 15-3. Millville enters the game at 3-2 and can cause trouble for the 6-0 Lady Bucks. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

Mak Wagner led Bucktail at the plate with two singles. Alexis Lowery, Kayla Probert, Haley Burrows, Matti Mason and Raileigh Isaacs each collected singles in the victory.
