Lady Wildcats take another nail-biter
DANVILLE, PA – The Central Mountain softball team on Friday knocked off the only Heartland Conference team to defeat the Lady Wildcats a year ago; in fact, Danville won both regular season meetings in 2021. But the visiting Lady ‘Cats came out on top Friday, traveling to Danville and coming home with yet another 8-inning win, this time by a 4-1 count and again it was sophomore Madison Hardy with a game-winning dinger. Coach Fred Caldwell’s team is now 4-0 on the young season, three of the victories going eight frames; Danville is 2-2 with the loss.
Central Mountain trailed 1-0 in the fifth before Harley Kunes drilled a pitch over the right-centerfield fence to tie the game. The score remained tied into the top of the 8th when Caitlyn Watson reached on an error and Allison Lininger reached on a base hit single to set the stage for first baseman Hardy who slammed a three run homerun over the right field fence to set the score at 4-1.
Addie McKeague continued her fine sophomore season, picking up the win in the circle.
Central Mountain is to return home next Tuesday, hosting Mifflinburg (2-2).
