PSU wrestlers host Broncs on Sunday

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA — The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team (16-0, 8-0) will close out the regular season by hosting Rider (4-8) on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Rec Hall. The Nittany Lions, off last weekend, last wrestled on Feb. 4 and 6, winning duals over Ohio State and Nebraska to clinch the 2022 Big Ten Regular Season (dual meet) title.
Penn State heads into the dual finale with a 16-0 record, 8-0 in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions face Rider for the first time since 2015 and will compete for the first time in two weeks.
The Nittany Lions feature nine wrestlers ranked by InterMat. Senior Drew Hildebrandt is ranked No. 5 at 125 with a 7-1 record. Senior Roman Bravo-Young is 13-0 at 133 and ranked No. 1. Senior Nick Lee is ranked No. 1 at 141 with a 13-0 mark. Sophomore Beau Bartlett is 10-6 at 149 and ranked No. 19. Sophomore Terrell Barraclough is 7-8 at 157 and junior Tony Negron is 5-5.
Senior Brady Berge is 3-1 at 165 and ranked No. 11 while junior Creighton Edsell is 9-3. Sophomore Carter Starocci is ranked No. 1 at 174 and is 14-0. Junior Aaron Brooks is 14-0 at 184 and ranked No. 1. Junior Max Dean is ranked No. 1 at 197 with a 14-1 mark. Sophomore Greg Kerkvliet is 13-1 at 285 and ranked No. 5.
Rider is coming of two wins last weekend, downing Clarion 16-15 on Friday, Feb. 11, and winning at George Mason 21-13 on Saturday. The Broncs are 4-8 on the year. Sophomore Quinn Kinner is 12-5 at 141 and ranked No. 25 by InterMat. Tyler Klinksy is 11-8 at 125, Richie Koehler is 16-6 at 133 and David Szuba is 14-9 at 285. Penn State owns a 6-0 lead in the all-time series between the two teams.
Penn State will head to Lincoln, Neb., for the 2022 Big Ten Wrestling Championship on Saturday and Sunday, March 5-6. The two-day event will serve as the NCAA qualifier for Penn State and the rest of the conference.
