Christmas stories anyone? …
If you have a favorite Christmas story you are willing to share, the Heritage Park committee folks would like to hear from you. Local author Donna Kshir is gathering stories to put together a booklet of Christmas stories for Heritage Park. You can send the stories to The Record at 12423 Renovo Road, Renovo, PA 17764 or to Heritage Park, 530 Erie Ave., Renovo, PA 17764. Please mark envelopes ‘Attention Christmas Stories.’
Donna sang too …
For a number of years now, the Renovo Community Choir has been singing a few songs for the Queen’s Banquet during the Flaming Foliage Festival. This year the choir was joined by one of the judges for the queen’s contest, Donna Dorey. Donna is a retired teacher in the Keystone Central system and leads several Weight Watcher’s meetings in Clinton County.
Lots of praise for the FFF committee …
The praises continue for the Flaming Foliage Festival this year, and it’s well earned praise indeed. I’m not sure how the count is determined but I’ve heard there were about 25,000 people in Renovo during the three day event this year. The absolutely perfect weather helped to be sure, but the parade was good, and everywhere the food was good (several attending the G.T. Thompson meeting Friday said the area ought to market its good home cooking.)
Marketing is the key …
Speaking of that Thompson meeting – U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson met with business people last Friday at Yesterday’s in Renovo – during the meeting it was mentioned that this area would benefit from more marketing of the area’s natural attributes. I was surprised that only about a dozen people attended the meet with G.T. I’m thinking that perhaps Rep. Thompson’s meeting could have been marketed more because several business people I talked to did not know the representative was going to be at Yesterday’s. I’m not sure if it was an impromptu meeting or not, but it was very interesting and informative.
While the area’s economic woes were not resolved in that nearly two hour session, most people there said they appreciated the chance to talk to our U.S. representative in person and the chance to relate the issues important to the business community.
Tim would have been there …
Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but we hear that Chapman supervisor Tim Horner may have to build an addition to his house to display all the awards he’s won in recent years for public service – which includes attending many, many meetings in many, many places. The rumor is that he said he would have been at the Thompson meeting had he known about it. Horner, who is president of the township supervisors’ state organization was surprised last week when he was given an award at a dinner of who’s who Clinton County personalities. A couple of months ago his photo graced the entire front cover of the Pennsylvania Township News. This past month he’s made front page news of Clinton County’s newspapers.
VA services a possibility …
An interesting and welcome bit of information that came out of the Thompson meeting was that he has been talking to Bucktail Medical Center officials about the possibility that the medical center may be able to offer some veteran’s services in the near future. And BMC head Tim Reeves concurred they are working with veteran’s affairs officials on that possibility. It would be welcomed by many veterans from this area who travel elsewhere for services.
