Mill Hall home gutted in Tuesday afternoon fire
MILL HALL, PA – Some 40 firemen from Mill Hall area companies responded to a Tuesday afternoon fire at a frame home at 221 S. Water St. in Mill Hall. Borough Fire Chief Tony Walker said it took firemen 45 minutes to knock down the blaze in sub-freezing temperatures. The fire gutted much of the two-and-a-half story building.
Walker said a state police fire marshal has been summoned to investigate for a cause. He said there were no initial reports of any injuries. A neighbor said a husband and wife and their two children, a boy and a girl, resided there. Another neighbor said there had been a young girl who had departed the building and went to a nearby home for shelter; Chief Walker could not confirm those reports. He did indicate a dog and a cat were not able to escape the burning building.
The fire forced the closing of Water Street along Fishing Creek, traffic redirected onto Pennsylvania Avenue.
