For The Record

By Michael Frank

Wow! 150 years in business is an accomplishment that’s hard to believe but one we don’t take lightly at The Record. Over the years we have strived and continue to strive to provide all of Clinton County with accurate breaking news, sports coverage and community happenings all with local ownership. We couldn’t have made it to 150 without the community and our wonderful resilient staff. Our staff puts many evenings and early mornings in working to provide the community with breaking news and updates when they need it. And for that I say, “Thank you to our entire team. We couldn’t do it without each one of you!”

We are excited to celebrate our 150 years in business and will take all of 2022 to celebrate. We’ve got some special contests and events in the works and can’t wait to share them with you in upcoming editions of The Record. The Record has been able to survive an industry that keeps downsizing and consolidating virtually daily, this because of our ability to adapt and bring our readers what they want to read. When I bought The Record back in 2019, I promised to continue its legacy when I said “The Record has a 148- year history of sustained journalistic excellence. It is my goal to continue those high standards in both our print and online versions. We will sustain and grow The Record’s emphasis on Clinton County.”

Since then, we have seen our print edition subscription base continue to grow and our online site therecord-online.com growth skyrocketing to more than two million visitors a year. As we look forward to making it to our 300th year anniversary we are continuing to evolve to make our content easier for our viewers to access on whatever device they would like: from the print edition each week to reading the news daily on their phone or tablet.

We are excited to be kicking of a new online subscription called TheRecord+. Our main site TheRecordOnline.com is not going anywhere and our breaking news, sports and community announcements will continue to remain free for the community to read online as they have so far. However, with TheRecord+ readers will get access to a weekly online flip-book print edition, access to special TheRecord+ editorial content, podcasts, and special video reports and receive our daily email brief and so much more. All current print subscribers will have access to TheRecord+ as part of their current subscription. We plan to officially launch TheRecord+ in March of next year. More information will be released over the next two months. For all our print subscribers don’t worry the print edition isn’t going anywhere as we are committed to continue to print it.

Also in January 2022 we will be launching a survey online called “Record Readers Review”. The survey will be available the last two weeks of January and we are asking all our readers to take a few minutes and complete. The goal of the survey is to help us make sure we are providing our readers all the content they are looking for and to help us find new content our readers crave to have added to The Record.

Thanks again to our readers for helping The Record turn 150 years old. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Thank you for making Clinton County a special place to call home. We look forward to serving you for another 150+ years.
