Pull the curtains …

Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but I’ve heard there was a bit of unplanned entertainment during the Flaming Foliage Festival. I’m told a person stripped down to his underwear and went into the Susquehanna to rinse off and perhaps swim. Oh well, don’t they always say “there’s one in every crowd.”

Speaking of crowds, there was a very good turnout for the Flaming Foliage Festival this year and the absolutely excellent weather was a real blessing. There was also a lot of good food, and the place smelled delicious.

Maybe next year …

Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but we’ve heard that the foot long hotdogs that were not available from the Marine Corps League may be back next year. It’s funny how people associate different things as part of the whole. There apparently are many folks who associate the MCL foot long hotdogs as part of the foliage festival.

Thank you folks …

There are so many people who deserve heaps of thanks for all the work that goes into the Flaming Foliage Festival. I’ve learned it is a yearlong effort for the FFF committee and our special thanks go out to that committee. Thanks also to the PRR committee who worked tirelessly to clean up the area to put on its best face. I worry when I compliment and thank people because I know there’s always someone who isn’t mentioned but these thank you’s are meant for every single person and organization who helped in any way to make the festival a success.

Thank Elks …

The PRR folks are also extending their thanks to the Renovo Elks lodge whose members provided a lunch for the PRR workers who cleaned up the town, trimmed trees and painted curbs. The PRR works are very appreciative of the Elk’s kindness.

Thanks students …

Thank you is also sent to Bill Probst’s shop class student s at Bucktail Area High School who helped with delivering and setting up tables and chairs for the FFF queen’s banquet and who were back again Tuesday to put the tables and chairs, etc. away for another year.

Sparks flew …

There was an electric moment during the well attended Renovo meeting last Thursday when sparks flew around a cord. Bill Seigel of SEDA-Cog was speaking at the time about the importance of giving complete info on grant applications. “I’ve been known to set off some sparks,” he said.

The jamboree …

Susquehanna Council of Boy Scouts held a jamboree two weekends ago at Hyner Park. We hear that more than 200 scouts attended the weekend campout despite the rainy and windy weather.

Great ideas guys …

Some really great ideas were presented to those who attended the Renovo meeting held last Thursday at Yesterdays. Ryan Graw talked clearing out the area around the old Eighth St. Bridge and place benches and historical signs. There used to be a walkway there years ago. He said the PRR is collaborating with other groups to clean up along the river in that area. It was mentioned that DCNR has a corps of volunteers who help clear areas, trail work and groups already working together on many projects.

Rich Wykoff talked about a possible ATV trail from Avis to Beech Creek to Potato City. He said the Renovo Cruise for Cure has grown each year it’s held. He noted that four times as many ATV licenses are sold in Pennsylvania as He said Rep. Mike Hanna, Sen. Joseph Scarnetti are looking to develop map of ATV trails. ATV’ers coming to area, like it here, but we need to have more miles to travel, things to do, Wykoff said.

Artisans to meet …

Artisans it is time for the talented people to come “out of the woods” to be recognized and share their passion.

Area artisans have unique visions and creations that can help put Western Clinton County “On the Map,” said Alice Tarr who is spearheading the effort. The meeting will be held at Heritage Headquarters, 530 Erie Ave. in Renovo on October 16 at 6:30 p.m. Ideas that will be explored will include A temporary or permanent gallery site, workshops, after school programs, marketing and the role PA Artisans Trail can play economic development.
