Sugar Valley Rural Charter goes back to masking effective Monday
LOGANTON, PA – Staff and students at Sugar Valley Rural Charter School are to go back to masking effective with classes on Monday. The announcement came to parents and guardians at the Loganton-based school on Sunday.
Sugar Valley at mid-week last week dropped the masking mandate after Commonwealth Court ruled state government lacked the authority to impose the mandate. Later the lower court ruling was stayed when an appeal was filed to the state Supreme Court.
Sunday’s announcement to return to masking was posted by SVRCS CEO Tracie Kennedy:

Dear Parents/Guardians,
As per our Health and Safety Plan, we must ask all staff and student to return to masking at school immediately. This week’s news brought reports of an end to the mandatory masking in PA schools. At that time, our Health and Safety plan called for a return to parent choice for their students’ masking, and we notified parents of this. Not long after we communicated this message, word was released that the state had filed an appeal that put mandatory masking back in place. Our Health and Safety plan states very clearly that we will follow these directives from the state.
Please remember that masking on buses is still a federal requirement.
This is a very confusing time for us all. We are tired and very frustrated with the political back and forth over this issue, which affects our children. We are doing our best to provide you with the most current information as it comes available, while keeping our students safe, healthy, and educated.
If you have any questions, please contact us at the school. Additionally, feel free to email any member of the SVRCS Board of Trustees if you wish to discuss this issue with them. Their email can be located on the board page of the school’s website at svrcs.org/board.
Thank you,
Tracie Kennedy, CEO
