Clinton County unemployment rate drops

HARRISBURG, PA – Clinton County’s unemployment picture showed slight improvement during the month of September, according to information released Tuesday by the state Department of Labor & Industry.

Clinton County’s jobless rate was 6.3% in September, down from the 6.7% reading in August. The September numbers showed an estimated 1,100 people out of work in the county, while the number was 1,200 in August.

One year ago, the county’s unemployment rate was 6.9% with an estimated 1,200 people out of work. For the week ending October 23, the county had 348 continued unemployment claims, down from the 737 listed approximately one year ago.

The county’s 6.3% reading was good for no. 40 out of the state’s 67 counties. Chester County had the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 3.8%. Centre County was no. 3 at 4.0% and Lycoming checked in at 6.5%, good for no. 49. Fayette County had the highest unemployment rate in the state at 8.3%.
