Lock Haven University celebrates 2021 homecoming
LOCK HAVEN, PA — Lock Haven University recently celebrated homecoming week 2021 from October 19-24 in which numerous activities were held for students, faculty, staff, alumni and other members of the LHU and local community.
The festivities began on Tuesday, Oct. 19 with a T-shirt Tuesday giveaway. On Wednesday, Oct. 20, the Haven Activities Council (HAC) held their HAC Hump Day – Haven Spirit Day event and men’s soccer took on West Chester at Hubert Jack Stadium. Hypnotist Saliesh also performed that night in Price Auditorium.
On Thursday, Oct. 21, Lock Haven University joined Keystone Central School District once again in a partnership to hold a joint homecoming parade in downtown Lock Haven. Students, faculty, staff and alumni from LHU and KCSD marched together in the parade down Main Street and ended at LHU’s East Campus Science Center. There, KCSD held a pep rally and LHU participants continued on to meet up for the start of the annual golf cart parade on LHU’s campus.
A total of 56 golf carts, decorated by campus clubs and organizations, as well as the Classes of 1970 and 1971, made their way through campus and parked on the Poorman Commons, where a happy hour lawn party was held with free food, lawn games and music. This year’s parade theme was, “In & Out of This World.” Parade winners are planned to be announced at the Student Activities Leadership Council meeting on Nov. 3. Winners will receive a certificate and $200 for their special account.
On the morning of Friday, Oct. 22, the 27th annual Alumni Golf Classic took place at Belles Springs Golf Course in Mill Hall, where a Kraft and Karry event also was held. The Haven Cupboard celebrated its two-year anniversary with an Open House and later that evening, there were alumni Mix & Mingle events at the Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center. A Drag Show Extravaganza occurred in the Parsons Union Building, sponsored by LHU’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance and women’s volleyball hosted Bloomsburg in Thomas Fieldhouse.
Tailgating took place before the football game against Kutztown on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Jack Stadium, where the Classes of 1970 and 1971 also celebrated their 50th class reunions. Both classes also enjoyed a tour of the Lock Haven area on the LHU trolley. A dedication ceremony was held for the Grand Bald Eagle Statue plaque on the Poorman Commons. Alumnae games took place for softball and lacrosse and tennis took on California University of Pennsylvania. A turf celebration also was held at Charlotte Smith Field, where field hockey hosted Davidson.
Haven Homecoming 2022 dates are set for September 15-18, 2022.
